Sylvana Diabetes Education Program of Santa Barbara

August 8, 2006 Sylvana Grace Montgomery was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes; she was 10 years old. I was stricken with grief, since she was now the forth immediate family member to be diagnosed with this disease. Sylvana is my daughter.

Being born into a family with diabetes – my two older brothers were diagnosed at 3 and 12 years of age – I came to my daughter’s aid with at least a bit of knowledge and experience...most have none.

The Sylvana Diabetic Education Program is about providing parents and their diabetic children with the proper tools they need to battle the disease until a cure is found. The Sylvana Diabetes Education Program is graciously underwritten by the Montgomery Foundation, founded by James F. Montgomery in 1994, Sylvana’s grandfather, in honor of his parents.
